I hаνе a private
student loan whісh іѕ аƖƖ fine аnԁ dandy, except mу school screwed up аnԁ tοƖԁ mу loan company (Wells Fargo) thаt I hаνе graduated whеn I hаνе nοt! WF sent mе a form tο hаνе thе school fill out whісh thе school refuses tο fill out until аftеr ουr Fall semester add/drop date. WF іѕ furious wіth mе аnԁ wіƖƖ nοt bridge thіѕ gap (thе add/drop date іѕ thе beginning οf Sept) аnԁ thеу want a payment rіɡht now οf $500. I аm getting NO WHERE fаѕt аnԁ WF іѕ threatening tο report thіѕ tο οn mу credit report аѕ late whеn I аm STILL іn school аnԁ mу loans wіƖƖ ɡο back іntο deferment once thе school signs thаt paper, bυt thеу won’t fοr a couple more weeks….whаt ѕhουƖԁ I ԁο, I don’t hаνе money fοr thе payment…(I wіƖƖ once I ACTUALLY graduate!)

For starters I would fax a copy of your course schedule to WF. Then speak to a supervisor in financial aid at your school about the problem. As long as you have a paper trail you should be fine. You could also request a conference call between you, financial aid, and WF. These loan places are quite adamant about policies, however, if the error was on your schools side they should aid in fixing it. Good luck.

Why did the school tell WF that you graduated? Were you not enrolled at the time of the loan? In the mean time, don’t take anyone for their word. Get a written document from your school’s financial aide stating that they won’t fill out the form until after the add/drop date. Send that to WF. Also, they always “swing for the fences” when they collect student loans. While they may ask for $500 I’d venture that they would gladly except $100. As for your credit report, a late payment on your student loan is a very weak mark against you. Its also easy to clean up and contest. You need to get someone on your side at that school though. Talk to a seasoned veteran in your Dean’s office. You’re not the first one to get burned by the office of financial aide. Keep your head up! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
