can private student loans be wiped out in bankruptcy court?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010
Jennifer Y asked:

I have so many student loans some of them private and my monthly payment is half my monthly income. I have applied for deferment and should be eligible for it based on the 20% rule but the private loans want me to pay for deferment. I a going to be declaring bankruptcy later on this year and wanted to ask if private student loans can be discharged in bankruptcy as they wont reduce the interest rate nor work with me to accept a lower monthly payment.

Anyone else have high student loan amounts? :(?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I have $20k in student loan debt. ugh It’s in deferment right now because i have another month left of school. Because i have so much in debt, does that mean my payments will be high when my payments start back up? My interest rate is 6.8%. Would anyone else mind sharing how much student loan debt you have?

what info do i need for taxes if i am living off student loans?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

1. i have an undergraduate debt, that i began to pay off for a year with a part time job from summer 2008-summer 2009. then i entered med school (fall 2009), so those payments are currently in deferment. right now, i’m living completely off a large student loan, and will continue to do so for the next 3 years. what i’m asking is, in addition to my W-2 for the 2008-2009 year, what else do i need to file my taxes? something that shows my undergrad loans? my current loans? thanks.
